Pudong Grade 1: A Great Beginning of Your Science Experience
Pudong Grade 1: A Great Beginning of Your Science Experience
Grade 1 has been quite busy over the past month! In addition to their usual studies, the students have been completing a series of science experiments. The first experiment was about the rate at which skittles melt in hot or cold water. The purpose of this experiment was to lay out the steps of the scientific method, and illustrated the importance of accurately recording observations. The students also used their own 5 senses to explore the concept of the 5 senses using popcorn (yum!). Our students have also compared living earthworms with nonliving gummy worms to help them explore the idea of living and non-living things. We have also covered the main animal groups, and will soon be moving on to food chains and camouflage. We will have lots of fun activities to accompany all of these lessons!
In Social Studies, students have been exploring the concepts of self, roles, and what it means to be a hero. We have also worked on our mapping skills, with students learning the cardinal directions, as well as how to accurately draw a map of their bedroom. As their first SSS project, students will be responsible for creating and presenting their own map to the class after the October holiday. We have many more interesting lessons planned for Social studies, so stay tuned!
