2016-2017 School Year High School Scholarship Award Ceremony

On the afternoon of September 27th, 2017, the International Division 2016-2017 School Year High School Scholarship Award Ceremony proceeded in the auditorium. Principal Ma of the High School International Division, the directors of the various sections in high school, and the subject group and grade leaders attended the ceremony. Other attendees included all students from G9-12, a portion of the teachers, and numerous parents. Students encompassing three different grades, Annie Fang, Alex Li, and Cindy So hosted the ceremony.

By 2 o’clock, the attendees were seated under the instruction of volunteers, occupying the entire two floors of the auditorium. At 2:30, the ceremony was officially inaugurated. Firstly, Principal Ma delivered a speech addressing the three major themes of the event: sharing, reflecting, and developing. He then addressed the “purpose of going to school”, generating contemplations among the audience, highlighting that the evolution in scholarship assessment was an important change one should recognize. Finally, he thanked all teachers who participated in the process of assessment for their work.

Then came the apex of the event: the awarding ceremony. The revolutionized scholarship was divided into four fractions: Social Activity Award, Academic Achievement Award, Individual Outstanding Award, and Principal’s List Award. The students received their awards in aligned collections. Five students representatives shared with their peers their study experiences, reflected upon their drawbacks during their school lives , and prospected their future paths. During intermission, the String Ensemble won widespread appreciation and applaud with their wonderful performance.

Lastly, the mother of Audney Guo from 11th grade represented the parents in her speech. She recalled the distinct scenes from when her daughter first entered Shanghai High School International Division, and expressed her thanks for the school, thanking the school for their effort for the individualized and well-rounded development of every student.

Zeyu Chen (Jerry)

In addition to being one of the top students in his grade, a fighter who never surrenders to any academic difficulty, and a creative inventor who figures out new methods and new ways to be more efficient in his school work, Jerry is also the founder and president of Project SNAP, the co-president of the Mock Trial Club, the director in chief of TEDxSHSID, and an active member and Assistant Secretary of Media in the International Affairs Association. All in all, with a positive disposition and a high level of diligence, Jerry is a more than capable student.

Kevin Bao

Kevin’s story is truly inspiring. He was a top graduate of Grade 8 and always had motivation for both academic work and social activities. He went through a particularly difficult time in the second semester of Grade 9, but in the end confronting his oscillating test scores turned out to be a key learning experience for Kevin. He used it to his advantage to reflect all his learning and debating experiences and finally became an all round success.

Tiffany

Tiffany from 9(4) is Chief Cello Principal. She has participated in many large-scale performances and music activities both inside and outside the school. She is also the Minister of Propaganda of the school community. She has made a prominent contribution to community activities.

Rachel Wu

Economics is a newly available subject for students in 9th grade, and Rachel Wu from 9(8) is curious about it. She also has a passion for persuasion. In class, she was able to actively join in with the discussion of economic issues, and is always able to complete her classwork and projects to a high standard. After school she reads books on economics and watches related videos. Her winter project was a particularly excellent piece of work. She recently recorded a very interesting podcast on economics, covering and analyzing some difficult theoretical topics. She also actively participated in an Economics competition, and won Gold Prize at the ASDAN Business Simulation Competition. She was also invited to the Yale business conference this summer. She has performance has put her among the top students in her H level Economics class. Rachel Wu's serious learning attitude and her enthusiasm will serve her well and bring us hope when she joins the next generation of young economists.

Tina

Tina from 9(6) is a commendable student. She easily grasps all knowledge at hand and helps her teacher channel information to the entire class. Tina Liu not only studied hard last year and received excellent grades, but also actively participated in the school activities relevant to her subject choices. She was praised by everyone who saw and noted her work. This semester she was responsible for coordinating, editing and proofreading the Zhaoyang club's first magazine. In addition, she also served as a reporter and earned her place as leader of the PA Journalism department. She was actively involved in the interview work of multiple upperclassmen and carefully completed any writing and translation tasks assigned to her on time.
