Grades 5-6: Fire drill
Grades 5-6: Fire drill
Autumn is coming and the weather is getting dry. That means the risk of fire accidents is getting higher. So, on the 15th of September, a fire drill was held at SHSID.
The fire drill took place during the 7th period in the afternoon. Before getting into action, the teachers explained to the students about the background of the fire drill and the importance of getting prepared for fire accidents. They also advised the students about the proper responses during a fire. For example, you should stay calm, cover your mouth with a soaked towel or with your sleeves, and do not run in order to avoid tripping over and running into others.
In the middle of the lecture, the fire alarm rang! The students quickly grabbed their towels and ran out of the classrooms. Smoke started to spread around and some students got very nervous. They ran to find the exit. Luckily, most of the students managed to stay calm and finally all students left the building safely.
Perhaps the first fire drill was new to many students and therefore the students’ performance in the first attempt was just average. The teachers generally thought that the students could do better than that. As such, the second fire drill was launched right away. After the experience of the first drill, the second drill ran really smoothly. Students left the ‘burning’ building in an efficient manner. The teachers were satisfied with the students’ performance and the students also felt good about the improvements made.
