Puxi grade 3: Stinky Gift
Puxi grade 3: Stinky Gift
On September 14th , Grade 3 students had a totally different Personal Growth class: ‘Stinky Gift’. Teachers first showed the kids how this activity goes on. One teacher said, “I have something for you. It’s a …, hope you will like it.” This gift itself may be useless, even stinky, but the one who got the gift needs to respond by saying “I really like it because… ” listing the advantages of this gift at the same time.
After the teachers’ examples, students were divided into groups of two and they needed to imitate the teachers to make dialogues. Student A should think about a ‘Stinky Gift’ while student B had to find its useful and bright side. Student A gave student B a piece of tissue paper. Student B answered, “I appreciate it! I was just pouring down water on my table.” Student A gave student B a basket of rotten tomatoes. Student B answered, “Oh awesome! I can take this basket for a picnic.” Student A gave Student B a pair of stinky socks. Student B smiled happily, “These socks can be washed clean and become a good whiteboard eraser!” Listening students’ unimaginably stinky gifts and their creative, positive answers, the teachers felt happy and they could tell that students were trying to think about problems in a good way with less complaints and much more gratefulness.
When you say “Yes, and…” instead of of “Yes, but...”, you encourage others to speak more and that is a good way to respect and communicate with others. ‘Stinky Gift’ teaches the children that life is a gift. Sometimes it stinks. Try to see it from a positive point of view and you will bring much more happiness to yourself as well as to the people around you.
