SHSID from the perspective of a new student

As I walked through the gates of SHSID, I was feeling both anxious and excited for the new challenges that were yet to come. I could not wait to make new friends and meet my teachers who will guide me throughout the year. I could not wait to start my first day in SHSID!

I entered room ‘306’ for my homeroom class gathering. It was filled with a joyful atmosphere. All I could hear was the chitter-chatter of my new classmates. I made a beeline to my seat, only to be greeted with a huge pile of textbooks. I was excited to learn some new subjects in SHSID as I flipped through the textbooks for an overview of the coming year.

The rest of my day went smoothly, until it was time for the opening ceremony. Unfortunately, I got lost in the sea of people. At that moment, my heart was beating like a jackhammer. I was thinking of what to do and my stomach tightened into a knot, but thankfully I met my homeroom teacher. The butterflies in my stomach were gone when she guided me to my seat.

This was then followed by the start of the opening ceremony. The star students gave speeches to teachers and students. I realized that they all had one thing in common– they are not procrastinators! They are star students simply because they love studying. They inspired me to strive to do my best in everything and learn from my mistakes. I also learned not to be embarrassed of failure and persevere when you fall.

The principal’s speech also gave me tremendous encouragement. As he said, if we were to take the amount of time we spend playing video games, and put it to learning and studying, we can all be top students. I also realized that many students in SHSID are mature and devoted because of the teachers who teach them with full dedication.

At the end of the day, I figured out why SHSID is so successful. It is not because of the UNESCO site or its long tradition and rich history. What really matters are the people and culture of SHSID!
