Grade 10: College Counselling Course (1) How to prepare for the new SAT

On the last class of September 4th, the 10th graders had an SAT preparation session in the auditorium of Xianmian Building.

In this lecture, the speaker, Mr. Justin went through 3 important ways to prepare for the SAT. The first was about scheduling the time for your test, and using materials that would be helpful. Both Mr. Justin and Miss Zhang Nan asked the students to complete the SAT test during 11th grade. He recommended the students various materials, such as the Khan Academy’s resources, and the real SAT tests sold by the College Board. The second point Mr. Justin discussed was about the “words in context” area of the SAT. Mr. Justin would like us to understand that we can look around the sentences and get clues about the definition of the word. Thirdly, he talked about the use of evidence. Similarly to the second point, we can highlight sentences to check whether a choice applies to the question.

Students can start following these steps and carry out practice tests. In the practices, the students can at the very least notice their weaknesses and strengths. Hopefully, they will also get a satisfying score in the SAT!
