Opening Ceremony for Grades 9-10
Opening Ceremony for Grades 9-10
As 9th and 10th grade students gradually filled the auditorium, the opening ceremony for the 2017-2018 school year commenced. The ceremony started with a short recap video produced by SHSID’s own IT club which showed many pictures of big events and activities.
Firstly, SHSID Principal Mr Ma Feng gave us an inspiring speech to start the new semester. In his speech, he encouraged the students to enrich their school life through a variety of activities, to develop their own leadership and sense of responsibility. In addition, he also made a detailed account of some changes in the school this semester. Some of the big changes are as follows: the use of the blackboard system to facilitate the sharing of resources; the letter grades in transcript to help the students become more concerned about their capacity for academic development, not just scores; through the SEA, students and parents can check their classroom performance and trends in ability; students can also use databases to perform literature searches during PBL classes. At last he stated his strong hopes and blessings for everyone in the new semester to become better selves.
Then, Ms.Liu Min, director of Grade 9 and 10, greeted the students who had just come back from the summer vacation, and urged them to prepare for the challenges of the new semester. She reviewed and confirmed the achievements and academic progress of the students over the last semester, including TOEFL, PSAT, major events and so on. She also notified the students of several upcoming events. Finally, Ms. Liu encouraged all teachers and students to meet the challenges of the new semester. "Your future depends on yourself, and the school's future depends on you!"
At the same time, Ms. Zhang Yueyue welcomed all the new 9th graders to High School. She called on students to make a long-term plan, to use their family connections to perform a self-evaluation and to continue to work hard. Subsequently, Michelle from 9(10) talked about her own social activities and campus life experience. Ms. Yu Zhen congratulated the students who have made achievements in major school events and encouraged everyone to make efforts to move up to higher level classes. She also hoped that everyone will make progress in all fields over the new semester. Subsequently, Dennis from 10(7) talked about his summer experience of teaching calligraphy lessons and encouraged everyone to develop their abilities and contribute to their community.
Following on from that, Tiffany from 10(8) gave a short speech about ASB activities. Ms. Cui Mengdi also gave us a speech about the PA program. Kevin from 10(6) shared his experience in ‘Simply Bakery’ club as the leader. At last, a few awards and recognitions were met with great applause, and the ceremony ended with the giving of expectations for the new semester.
