Grade 11: Focusing on Aspiration and Interest Campaign

The juniors will face their college applications very soon. Many of them may already have a clear interest in a particular major, and have already begun to plan and gather relevant information. Still there are some students who are unsure about what major to apply for and where their interests lie.

To inspire our juniors to discover their interests, and to develop their potential in their interested areas. On CAS class of June 7th, the Grade 11 students gathered in the Annex Auditorium and were provided the chance to listen to three groups of students’ presentations. The student speakers also came from 11th grade. They shared their opinions and information about their chosen areas of study. The three presentations covered science, arts, and social science. The student speakers had prepared their lecture for a long time and are very generous in sharing their interests with peers. We also had the honor to invite two of our teachers- Mr. Mark Seeley and Ms. Yao Shenghua- they prepared lectures about carrying out research work in literature and science, for those of our students who are interested in research work.

Yvonne Han from 11(3), and Jenny Wu from 11(6) talked about their interest in Chemistry and Environmental Science. They also used interesting animation and picture to illustrate their knowledge and love of these two areas.

Hiro from 11(3), Ivan Lin from 11(10), and Winner Wang from 11(8) talked about the experience of being a conductor, as well as sharing their passions and dreams for the future.

Alex Jung from 11(6), Jun Lee from 11(2), and Conrad from 11(1) shared their interests in International Trade, Public Policy, and Linguistics.

Mr. Seeley guided students on how to read literary work and to discovery their own opinions for critical writing.

Ms. Yao used several student research project samples to inspire students and then led students step by step on how to carry out research in science.

This CAS lecture is just one item under the "focusing on interest, inspiring potential" banner in SHSID. For years, we work on the cultivation of students' innovative thinking and literacy to inspire students' motivation, to promote the development of their knowledge structure, and to advance the cultivation of their creative in-depth thinking.
