Grade 11: Company Visit - COMAC
Grade 11: Company Visit - COMAC
On May 24th, SHSID students visited a variety of companies. Among the many choices, there was Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co.,Ltd., the Manufacturing Center of COMAC., which is an aerospace productionfirm. Students were excited to visit such a prestigious company responsible for one of the most important modes of transport today.
When students arrived at SAMC, they were asked to put on white lab coats in order to enter the manufacturing site. As students followed the SAMC employees, students were able to see green prototypes- or the bones- of some planes that were to be manufactured. The guide explained some manufacturing processes and their relationships with other firms and industries.
We exited the site, and entered a plane made in 1980. It was the first successful model made by the firm, the guide explained, yet the aerospace business was thriving at that time.
Later, we were taken to a building with a miniature map of the whole company compound. We were briefly told about the firm itself and its employees. Then we were taken to a conference room, where we watched an introductory video of the firm and its history. It showed how, through trial and errors, they have finally reached success. Inspiration flushed through the room and the expedition to SAMC was over.
It was a great experience. We learned how planes are manufactured, and felt motivated.
