Grade 11: Company Visit - Luxembourg Consulate

On May 24th, the junior students of SHISD visited several private corporations and institutions in Shanghai to explore future career options. Among them included theConsulate General of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourgin Shanghai,located on West Nanjing Rd. Students listened attentively to an insightful presentation made by the employees in the consulate, which included the geographical, economic and social background of Luxembourg, as well as the daily operations and functions of the consulate. The presenter explained that the tasks of the consulate could be split into three categories: assistance for local Luxembourgers in Shanghai, visa services for Shanghai residents and the organization of events for Luxembourg officials visiting China. During the two hours at the consulate, students visited several departments and observed the process of assigning visas from the other end of the window. Overall, the juniors left intrigued and more interested about international relations and diplomacy as a future career path.
