Grades 9-10:World Scholars Cup

On April 22nd and April 23rd, the Shanghai Round of the World Scholars Cup was held in Shanghai United International School Nanyuan and Shanghai Pinghe International School.

There were over 450 people attending the Shanghai Round. We had 8 teams from our school participating in the senior division.

The World Scholars Cup has various events. The events include Collaborative Writing, Scholars’s Challenge, Team Debate, Scholars’ Bowl and the Talent Show.

On the first day, the senior division started with Collaborative Writing. There were six topics in total, and each team member needed to choose one to write an argumentative essay on. The second event of the day was the Scholar’s Challenge. Each Scholar needed to finish 120 multiple questions in an hour. The Scholars Challenge included six sections: Science, Social Studies, Literature, Art, History and the Special Area– Mythology. The third and final event of the day was the Team Debate.

The second day of the Shanghai Round was held at Shanghai Pinghe International School. The most intense event was the Scholar’s Bowl. Each team was in the auditorium with a clicker that would help them answer questions on the screen. This event was quite strategic. The second event of the day was the Talent Show. Scholars went to the stage and presented their talents. The Shanghai Round ended with a memorable closing ceremony. All of the scholars from our school got an award. Our school claimed 1st place in the Champion Team Awards within the senior division.

The World Scholars Cup is an academic competition which teaches scholars the joy of learning and working as the team. It was a great experience for all contestants. We hope we can succeed in the Global Round!
