Grade 7: Exhibition Guide Volunteer Program
Grade 7: Exhibition Guide Volunteer Program
On May 6th, fourteen volunteers from seventh grade joined an exhibition guide training session in Fosun Art Gallery. This was an activity to prepare them for the service learning class in the eighth grade. It was also a great opportunity for the seventh graders who are interested in art. At the beginning of the training, the coach told everyone to introduce themselves. The volunteers were very willing to do so to know each other better. Some of their introductions were very interesting. Next, the coach taught the students how to verbally present art.
“When you are introducing the artworks, you have to be loud and confident. You need to make eye contact, so your audience will be willing to listen to you,” the coach said.
After the introduction, the real practice began. In the gallery, there were many different artworks: some were painted directly on the wall, some were presented through animation, and some were scriptures. Each artwork had its own meaning and purpose. The coach introduced the artists and his artworks to the volunteers through details. The volunteers listened very carefully, and asked many good questions. Some of them brought their own notebooks to write down the important points. Some of them used mobile phones to record the explanation an analysis. At the end of the training, everybody learned a lot. The volunteers are now both nervous and excited, because next time, they will become the guide to introduce the artworks to the audience! We wish them good luck on their performance!
