Grade 8: English Speech Competition

On May 11th, 2017, all the 7th and 8th graders gathered around in the auditorium for their speech competition. Many of them had prepared for weeks in advance of this final round.

The competitors were all veterans, who had competed and excelled in the previous rounds. 8th grade had 7 competitors, 3 from S/S+, and 4 from H/H+. Their postures were natural, their voices were confident, their speeches were persuading, so…they were awesome in general! Their presentations, some with Powerpoints, moved every single student and teacher in the auditorium.

This year’s speech competition added a new section absent from previous years: the impromptu opinion speech. This section pushed the competition to its apex, and each speaker’s body language, fluency, and articulation won them round after round of applause. Finally, Megan Cui from 8(1) excelled in the H/H+ division, and Annie Chen from 8(7) won the first prize for S/S+.

This English speech competition was a chance for not only showing one’s passion for English, but also a place to demonstrate one’s speaking capabilities in speaking in front of 2 entire grades.
