Puxi Grade 2: Measurement of the Plant Growth

In math class, our students learned metric and customary units, including length, capacity and weight. We had a big project called ‘measurement of the plant growth’ for students to better understand how to use measurements in daily life. Students were asked to record the processes of the germination of seeds, transplant and the growth of plants. They measured the length of the plants, kept track of the growth data and took photos every 2 days. At the end of the project each student made a poster.

The students applied many math concepts into their projects, such as how to use a centimeter ruler, count dates, collect and analyze data, and finish a record chart. This project also has some scientific aspects, for example: how to germinate a seed, transplant the seedling and grow the plant.

Students handed in great posters before the due day. There were detailed record charts, nice photos and colorful decorations in the posters. And some students even included line graphs, good samples of their plants, or living plants growing in water with the posters. They really enjoyed this Spring math project!
