SHSID Stallions took part and achieved significant results in the largest hockey tournament in Asia

SHSID has become the first school in the entirety of mainland China to send a recognized ice hockey varsity team to play in an international hockey tournament. From April 26th to 29th, the SHSID Stallions took part and achieved significant results in the largest hockey tournament in Asia, the Hong Kong Mega Ice Hockey 5’s Tournament, in the Bantams (U15) A and Pee Wees (U12) A leagues.

It has been a challenging endeavor for our team, since the SHSID Stallions ice hockey team was brought together as a team less than half a year ago, and the opponents the Stallions faced in Hong Kong were relatively experienced, well-established teams. Nonetheless, our team displayed unremitting perseverance and fighting spirit during the games. Despite multiple injuries and defeats, our team continued to stand firm and fight to the last minute. The Stallions won great approval from our opponents and the officials of the tournament.

Ice hockey is still a budding sport in mainland China. The few hockey teams that exist in China are large run by private clubs and organizations, and school-run varsity teams are very rare. Ice hockey’s exciting game-play and novelty has attracted hundreds of young players in Shanghai. SHSID has taken the lead in the growth of this new sport by establishing the first varsity hockey team in Shanghai. The tournament in Hong Kong has gained our team valuable experience, and with the support of our school and our coaches from Feiyang Skating Center, the SHSID Stallions will continue to strengthen and expand, and will yield better results in future tournaments.
