8th Grade Karaoke Competition: Light the Passion Share the Dream

On the 27th of April, a karaoke competition for eighth graders was hosted during the Thursday CAS classes. As a competition dedicated to all those who love singing, it was a serious musical treat for all those who had any sort of interest at all in music.

Unlike the Talent Show and Art Festival, one did not need to audition to take part in the karaoke competition. It was welcome to all from Grade Eight who wished to sing in front of their peers. A total of 16 performances were put on by our talented singers.

There was a mix of cheerful pop sounds, sad, soulful melodies, and fast, exciting raps. Unsurprisingly, we heard songs sung in a whole variety of languages: Chinese, Japanese, and so on. It was a musically rich and diverse show. Everyone got to hear all kinds of music there is.

All the participants were incredibly talented, all with their own unique and amazing singing styles. At the end of the day, however, the judges of the karaoke competition came to a mutual decision and awarded Drake 8(10), who sang Adele's ‘Someone Like You’, first place. Second in line was Cathy Cheung 8(11) who performed Alicia Key's ‘If I Ain't Got You’. And, in third place, were Spencer 8(2) and Kenneth 8(11) who sang ‘Li Po’.

The karaoke competition was an amazing opportunity for budding singers to display their talents, and a great experience for all those who love music…which I am confident to say is everyone!
