Grade 11: Chinese Culture Day
Grade 11: Chinese Culture Day
On April 26th,Chinese culture day was held in the Xianmian Building. Students dressed up in traditional yet fashionable Chinese clothing. Starting from sixth period, teachers and volunteers changed into their costumes and prepared for a variety of very interesting events. Each classroom had a different activity for students to take part in.
There were traditional Chinese handicrafts such as making fans, cutting paper flowers, designing traditional Chinese masks, cross stitching, and making Chinese knots. Other activities such as poem verse matching, recital, riddles and palm reading aimed to bring Chinese culture closer to the students. Several students even performed astonishing traditional Chinese dances in front of the Xianmian Building. In the square hall and auditorium, drama performances by students went on for the entire schedule, which were indeed worth the time. For some students not interested in any of the activities and performances, a movie room was prepared. When the students participated in the Chinese culture day in any form, teachers gave stamps to them. With these stamps, students were able to exchange gifts such as folders or pencil cases. This provided motivation and award to the students who made the event so plentiful.
It was good to see everyone gathering together and taking an active part in this Chinese Culture event. It provided a sense of unity, or the Chinese ideal of a “reunion” in our school, in the name of Chinese Culture. The teachers seemed to be more than happy to teach the students about Chinese culture. Students were also eager to appreciate the different aspects of Chinese culture. It was a meaningful event. We look forward to see such an event again.
