Grade 8: History Class-When History Meets Art

On the afternoon of April 11th , SHSID’s 8th Graders had a very unusual and impressive history class. The class-room was decorated with twelve paintings from either Renaissance or classic Roman times. All these copies had been posted in random order and scattered all around the room’s wall. Paintings not only include famous ones, such as “Mona Lisa”, but also ones which are not well-known, such as: “Ill- matched Lovers” which criticize various social issues.

During the class activities, students were allowed to move around the room, performing as they were enjoying paintings in the gallery. While studying the description of paintings, students need to answer all their teachers’ questions about the possible painting period. All the paintings were analyzed by students. From this activity students learned while having fun. Furthermore, it allowed the students to improve their understanding of history and historical artists.
