Puxi Grade 4:Powering the Future

On the afternoon of April 25th, Grade 4 had a guest from Solmates, a new fund raising initiative launched in Singapore. She introduced a meaningful program that assisted the students in learning about solar energy, energy poverty, the effects that the Nepal earthquakes had on local children, and generally how they can have a positive impact on another child’s life.

In order to help the children in Nepalese villages, Grade 4 students will make lights named Solmates. A Solmate is a small but powerful portable solar light that is distributed through charities and NGOs to energy-poor areas and villages that live off the grid. The lights help the children and their families to study at night, use amenities in the dark, and lead a healthier life, since they can replace their Kerosene lamps with the Solmate. As we can see, it is a small but powerful life-changing device for village children. We hope our students can change the life of a third world child with their own hands and try to make a difference!
