Grades 9-10:ASDAN 2017 Business Simulation

On April 22-23rd, 2 teams (totally 16 students) from SHSID attended the ASDAN 2017 Business Simulation.

All of the ‘companies’ were selling baby carriages and the students all began with the same amount of capital: 500 million. In each round, teams needed to decide on multiple factors for investing, including staff numbers, salaries, marketing, research costs, and the price of their products. After every round of investment, the teams would receive the report of their previous round, telling for example how many workers quit the company because the salary was too low or how many surplus goods were not sold because the price was too high. The teams could then revise and improve their strategy in the next round in hopes of increasing their market share and net property. There were a total of 6 operation rounds.

Projects were also added amidst those rounds. There were 3 projects in total– Company Introduction, Office Design, and Advertisement. The team with the best project in their room would receive financial rewards that they could use for further investment.

For ASDAN, most of the information was not given until the introduction session on the first day of the competition. Thus it all depended on students' spontaneous reactions. The competition also practiced team work and corporation. As the CEO of the company, students also needed to know the merit of each of the team member, in order to assign appropriate work to them.

The final result was judged based on net property, which is equal to all of the cash the team has minus the debt that the company loans. Two teams both got very good results:
