Grade 6: Youth Development Class
Grade 6: Youth Development Class
In Youth Development class, we focused on eating healthy food, sleeping well, and exercising effectively.
In the first period of our class, we went outside and did some exercises with the teachers. These activities included playing Frisbee with a partner, a Zumba warmup, yoga, and a relay race having to do with food classifications. These activities filled up our whole first period.
During the second period, we headed back to the classroom and we sat down and talked about sleeping and eating healthily. We discussed the tracker we filled out throughout the week, calculated the average amount of sleep every one of us gets and compared. We talked about ways to help us get to bed earlier and go to sleep faster. We also talked about the benefits of healthy sleeping, and the harms that could be brought by sleeping late. Then we moved on to the topic of eating healthily. We analyzed different food groups such as fruits, grains, dairy products, vegetables, and proteins and the proportion of each old group that we should eat every day. Eating healthily is very important to us later on in life. Every one of us looked through our tracker, and labeled the healthy food and unhealthy food that we ate throughout the week.
Overall, during the whole Youth and Development class we learned how to live a healthy life by eating and sleeping healthily, and balancing our exercises. Our teacher also provided us with many fun and interesting facts which made the topic easier to understand and relate to our daily life. In conclusion, this Youth Development class was enjoyable and we learned plenty.
