Pudong campus: Chinese Culture Week

3, 2, 1, Action!

When it is getting into the last week of March, Chinese Culture Week is coming!

Let’s take our first look the Grade 4 students. They were wearing their costumes and ready to act their plays out. Once the third period finished, the students started to prepare for the play. This time the text that the students were going to perform was Mr. Dongguo & the Wolf. After the bell rang, the first group of actors went up to the stage and introduced the roles and started to perform. Everything was just perfect. The 5 groups of actors after them also gave the audience a great show. We believe we have a lot of talented actors in SHSID!

Meanwhile, the first grade students were making their own “blue and white porcelain”. They used colors, brushes and their imagination to make their unique paper vasew. The good ones were shown in the hallway and received lots of compliments from teachers and students!

Chinese Poems Competition

The lines of ancient Chinese poems can still thrill you up when you read them today. On the 28th of March, the students from Grade 3-5 of SHSID’s Pudong Campus gathered together in their auditorium and held a Chinese Poem Competition. 12 finalists from the 3 grades blew the audience and judges away with their knowledge of Chinese poems. Norah, Angelina, Angela J and Kenneth from Grade 4 handled the stress well and proved their ability in the last part of the competition.

Those second grade students who did not took part in this competition were experiencing another kind of traditional art— making a Chinese shadow play! After watching a short video about it, they were really wanted to make their own shadow play.

A Visit to China Martial Art Museum

The students of Pudong Campus visited the China Martial Arts Museum on the 30th of March, the fourth day of Chinese Culture Week. Followed the tour guide in the museum, the 4th graders saw the grand Wuhun Pillar, different kinds of weapons used by the ancient Chinese fighters, listened to the wonderful stories about the pictures on the wall, and watched a 3D video about the history of Chinese martial arts. Everyone was so into the world of martial arts. After looking around the exhibits, the students experienced some martial art training courses. Learning new things about martial arts and playing with the hi-tech equipment, everyone had a good time at the museum.

One day as an ancient

On the fifth day of the Chinese cultural week, all the kids from Pudong campus were invariably changed into a new dress, because today is the traditional costume day! Once you walked into the school gate and saw so many students dressed in a variety of ancient costumes around, it makes you feel like just running into another time space. Some girl in a variety of gorgeous costumes just seem like the princess come from the ancient palace, and the others wore elegant cheongsam with holding an umbrella, like the female students just walked out of the lane in the south of the Yangtze river. Obviously, boys in Tang suit were all handsome without doubts, they were gesturing with various martial movements that they learnt from the martial arts museum yesterday!

Delicious traditional snacks

As the Qingming Festival is coming soon, so the teacher in Pudong campus prepared the most seasonal traditional snack for the students - Qingtuan! Although the food is not uncommon, but enjoying the delicious food with classmates will always making the food taste more delicious. Therefore, the kids sat together, ate the Qingtuan, while sharing all the happy memories from the whole Chinese culture week with each other!
