Physics Department：An Inovative Open Class

On the afternoon of March 28th, an innovative open class was lectured by a physics teacher Xu Zhenchen in the Zhongxing Building. Mr. Xu first reviewed the concepts and formulas of one dimensional collision and then introduced the next lesson, which was two dimensional collision. Unlike traditional teaching methods, Mr. Xu let students explore the properties of two dimensional collisions through group games. Four students formed a group to play the coin collision game on the desks. They use a one-yuan coin and a five-fen coin to make them collide and took a video using their smart phones. Mr. Xu introduced a software called Tracker to help them get the exact locations of the two coins at each frame in the video. Then students can calculate their velocities and momenta and compared the experiment data with the formulas in the textbook.
