Cultivating Talents— Class of 2017 College Acceptance Results (As of March 31st, 2017)

Among 249 graduates of the Class of 2017, around 150 students (approximately 60%) chose to study in the United States. Here’s a snapshot of college acceptance results of the Class of 2017 :

• American institutions accepted our students in colleges including Princeton University, University of Chicago, Duke University, Dartmouth College, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, Northwestern University, University of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt University, Washington University in St. Louis, Emory University, Georgetown University, University of California – Berkeley, University of Southern California, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California – Los Angeles, University of Virginia, Tufts University, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Boston College, University of Rochester, Georgia Institute of Technology, etc. What impressed us most was that the student interested in studying film was admitted by New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, whose admission rate is lower than 5% but fostered many Academy Award Winners. Rhode Island School of Design, Pratt Institute, and the like also sent offers to our students talented in arts and design. In addition, Liberal Arts colleges are getting more popular among students, and offers from Wellesley College, Bowdoin College, Pomona College, and the like came one after another.

• British institutions: Students received offers from University of Cambridge (Trinity College), University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University of St. Andrews, etc. Our student who is passionate about architecture also became one of the 70 lucky admits worldwide to the Architectural Association School of Architecture — the oldest architecture school in Britain. Our students who are keen on fashion design were admitted by the University of Arts London, Central Saint Martins, etc.

• Other countries and regions: good news from Canada included McGill University, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, Queen’s University, etc. Institutions in Hong Kong including the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong sent offers to our students. Yale-NUS in Singapore, Sciences Po in France, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland admitted our students again. Those who started to apply colleges in Australia, Japan and Korea this semester were admitted by the University of Sydney, Waseda University, Sophia University, KAIST, etc. We look forward to hearing more good news.

Graduation marks a new starting point no matter where each student is heading to. SHSID holds the belief that every student has their own growth path, as well as individual interests and abilities. Do our graduates have the ability to continue to develop themselves after leaving high school? This is a question we often ask ourselves. We believe that having such an ability will lay a solid foundation for our graduates to become unique and life-long learners.

In recent years, our school has made two big research achievements: High School Co-curriculum Model and High School Curriculum Map. They embody our educational philosophy and practices committed to “cultivating talents”.

In today’s pluralist world, we will continue our endeavor to create various opportunities for our students to fully express and surpass themselves. We will also continue to help our students adapt better to today’s world and equip them with an ability for life-long learning and development.

The Class of 2017, with best wishes from your alma mater, you will embark on a new chapter of your life with confidence and courage. Wherever you are, wherever you go, you will always be the pride of SHSID!
