Chinese Ancient Poems Carnival For First Graders

The Chinese Poem Carnival is the most exciting activity in Chinese Culture Week from March 27 to April 1 for all the first graders in SHSID. All the teachers and students have put so much effort into this activity. The Chinese teachers selected fifteen Chinese ancient poems in advance and all the students spent about one month understanding and reciting these poems before this activity.

The Chinese Ancient Poems Carnival was held in Chinese class on March 27. It was divided into six segments. The students were encouraged to sing several songs with Chinese ancient poems as the lyrics. The students were also required to choose the correct sentence according to the picture given. The students needed to be familiar with both the poems’ meaning and the emotions contained deep inside the poems.

The interests on Chinese ancient poems have been aroused by this activity among the first graders. Many students told their teachers that they have learned and recited a lot more Chinese ancient poems recently. Hopefully that will be a good start for many first graders to learn more about Chinese ancient poems.
