Middle School: Fire Drill
Middle School: Fire Drill
It is very crucial for students to have an enjoyable school life, progress in the academic world, and experience various activities. However, the foremost aspect that teachers and parents always emphasize is safety. As a result, fire drills are an indispensable practice that must be performed by all students annually.
On the 2nd of March, the middle school of SHSID went through a fire drill during CAS classes. Beforehand, teachers distributed wet towels to students in order to prevent the damage to their throats that might occur in a real fire situation. Without any prior warning, the piercing noise of the fire alarm bell roared throughout the building. Under instruction from teachers, students rapidly exited their classrooms in lines. The hallways and the staircases were soon filled with students. However, they weren’t acting naughty, disobedient, or causing chaos. Instead, they were serious about the fire drill, carefully going down the steps.
As the students reached the first floor, they started to notice a bizarre smell. The odor was originating from gas left at the main entrance of the building, planned out by teachers who intended to make the fire drill as realistic as possible so that the students would not panic if they smell or see gas in the actual case of fire. After the crowd exited the building, they began to gather in the football field. Students were ordered to stand with their classmates in certain positions, which was a regulation aiming for speed and organization. The homeroom teachers had to count the number of students in each class, to see if they lacked any people. They also raised green cards showing that everyone was safe without any trouble. At last, the students returned to their classrooms, again realizing the importance of fire drills.
This fire drill was a successful practice where every student cooperated with teachers with respect and seriousness. In addition, we could see the effort made by the school, since it is trying its best to ensure safety of all students in SHSID.
