Puxi Grade 3: Fun with Rocks!

For the past two weeks, Puxi third graders have been enjoying studying rocks. Normally, studying something like rocks might sound boring, but the classrooms have all been anything but that!

First they began the unit by learning some basic information about the three main categories of rocks. For this, some of the classes learned a song about different rocks’ properties!

Next, they dug for precious metals! The students all took turns digging for diamonds, silver, rubies, and gold! It was spectacular to learn that Class 3(2) found a real ruby! None of the other classes in third grade found any real precious metals, but they did all end up with some other cool rocks!

Most recently, the students learned about the formation of crystals inside of geodes. But of course, it’s not enough to simply learn about it; they had to get their own geodes and see for themselves what was inside! The third graders all took turns breaking apart these rocks and discovering some truly magical sights inside.

Who knew rocks could be so much fun!?
