Grades 9-10: Opening Ceremony

As 9th and 10th grade students gradually filled the auditorium, the opening ceremony for the new semester commenced. The loudspeaker system broke through in unison with the screen, and the teachers played a short, motivational video filmed by Elaine Chao, the first Asian-American woman to become the Secretary of a Department of the US government. After this video students watched a 1st semester recap video produced by SHSID’s very own IT club.

Then, Ms. Min Liu, director of Grade 9 and 10, greeted the students who just came back from the winter break, and meanwhile urged them to prepare for the challenges of the new semester. She also introduced the high school curriculum reform, proposed practical suggestions and expressed her sincere hopes to the students. Afterwards, Ms. Zhen Yu and Ms. Yueyue Zhang commended the great achievements of Grade 9 and 10 students in the last semester. In their speeches, encouragement was also given to these sophomore students to take responsibility and grow to be more mature. Britney from Grade 9 and Hiko from Grade 10 also shared their social activity experiences and inspirations of starting out as a new student representative.

Following on from this, Ms. He, Ms. Liu and Ms. Chen gave short speeches highlighting last semester’s achievements as well as expectations for the students in this new semester. A few awards and recognitions were met with great applause, and the ceremony ended with some teachers delivering words of wisdom and wit to the students.
