Grades 5- 6: Opening Ceremony

After a wonderful and relaxing month of Winter holidays, the 2nd semester officially started on February 16th, 2017.

The opening ceremony for this semester was held on the first day of school in the primary school auditorium during the afternoon. It was a serious event and all the students from the 5th and 6th grades gathered to attend.

At the beginning, student representatives, Sarah from 6(1) and Ryogo from 5(2), gave us speeches that included many learning strategies such as: managing the time spent on our homework, previewing and regularly reviewing our notes and other doable guidelines to help us better our learning and get better scores. These speeches will definitely be helpful to us all.

After student speeches, Mr. Liu, Principal of the Middle and Primary Schools, also gave us a fruitful speech. He summarized good and bad attitudes towards studying, and then encouraged us to learn from the good ones while getting rid of the bad ones. He also emphasized the importance of being an independent learner; he explained that this is the key to achieving success both in middle school and in our future academic life.

After Mr. Liu's inspirational speech, Ms. Luo, Director of 5th and 6th grades, presented a long list of all the achievements we made in the past semester such as the charity contributions we made together and prizes we won in various competitions. She also informed us of all the new activities and lessons that will be available to us this year and called for more active involvement from all of us.

At the end of the ceremony, the top students in various subjects and activities were recognized and the top classes were awarded the title Star Class. You can see photos of their happy faces right below this article. Congratulations to everyone who was recognized for their achievements and I hope that they can continue to carry this wonderful spirit into this semester to help all the students and classes learn from their example.

Going forward into this semester, let’s think about how to set plans and how to carry them out to change for the better. I hope that by the end of this semester, we can speak out proudly about all the achievements and improvements we made!
