Grade 11: Opening Ceremony

New semester, new start. The second semester of SHSID began thus Thursday of February 16th. On the day, the senior high school held an opening ceremony to look back on the past semester and prepare for the upcoming new semester.

Speeches

Director Liu started the opening ceremony with a discussion about the purpose of study: to make oneself different. Following the speech, the students were presented with some of the notable achievements in the last semester, including awards in global competitions such as USAD and MUN. The teachers gave insightful advice about managing one’s time well and achieving the goals one has set. Our fellow students shared their experiences and gave valuable “lessons of life”. These were indeed some good words for a new start.

Awards

Afterwards, awards and certificates were given. First among them was the class ethos award. This award is based on various factors such as class performances, behavior, class ranking in activities like poster-making and dodgeball, in addition to the changes in individual rankings. The certificates for Junior Assembly speakers and Peer Advisors were also given.

Announcements

The key words for this semester include “IB/AP tests”, “Application of Awards”, “Senior Project”, “Global Citizen Day”, and “Junior/Senior Assembly”. It is going to be an academically important semester but at the same time, CAS activities should not be neglected. Some of the CAS activities were listed. This semester, there is going to be “Pi Day”, “Science Fair”, “Chinese Culture Week”, “Talent Show”, “Company visit”, “Inspiration Major Interest”, etc. Most of these activities will be led by students. Students who are willing to participate should contact the corresponding teachers before the event.

It is going to be a challenging semester, but also a memorable and colorful semester. There will be new tasks and new chances. But most importantly of all, as one teacher mentioned in the opening ceremony, let us spend the high school year well!
