All for the Children -----A New Year Mini Concert by 8th Grade “Music for Patients” Group in Shangha
All for the Children -----A New Year Mini Concert by 8th Grade “Music for Patients” Group in Shangha
The cold and strong air swept the road, chilling the bodies of the pedestrians. But inside the SCMC (Shanghai Children’s Medical Center), it was warm and full of the angel love for the patients. On December 30, 2016, “Music for Patients” Service Learning Group held its first charity mini concert in SCMC. This was the 4th performance the group held in this semester. Kingsley from 8(2) and his group members specially prepared some light classical and modern piano pieces. Also, the musical ensemble and vocal solo were added: a Cello and violin ensemble "Humoresque" by Sammi and Chantel; a female choir "All of me" sang by YueFan and Amanda accompanied by Barbie’s piano playing.
Supported by Parsons Music Group, the young pianists were excited to use a “Yangtze River” grand piano. The beautiful interpretation by the young musician with a variety of musical instruments and performance styles have been highly appreciated and resonated. Some children were so exciting that they were even dancing along with the rhythmic flow of the songs. Three Chopin’s famous pieces performed by Kingsley, Terence, and Amy were the climax of the performance. With "Happy New Year, Happy New Year...," in the chorus of this famous New Year song sang by all members of the group, the mini concert came to the end. The whole Outpatient Hall was full of laughter and happiness, which cheered up all the young musicians.
After the concert, all the group members visited the surgical wards on 9F to deliver some small beautifully packaged gifts to the children patients in the hospital. Mr. Liu Lian, Middle School and Primary School Principal of SHSID, Professor Ji Qingying, the Deputy Director, Ms. Chen, Director of Social Work Dept. of SCMC, and Mr. Jason Wu, the general manager of East China Region of Parsons Music Group all attended the concert to show their support and appreciation.
Happy New Year! “Music for Patients" group activities will continue.
