Puxi Grade 3: Math Project—City Arrays
Puxi Grade 3: Math Project—City Arrays
This month, third graders learned multiplication and array in math class. To help them have a better grasp of what they learned, teachers in third grader assigned a math project called City Arrays to the students.
Students were required to design a city by themselves containing the following buildings: police station, firehouse, bank, park, grocery store, 2 restaurants, 3 houses and 1 apartment complex. Each building was to be shown in an array from products given by the teacher. Students were required to cut the arrays out and paste them on the colored paper. Also, they needed to give a creative name to each building. To make their cities prettier, they were also encouraged to add streets and avenues to their cities.
Our third graders fully demonstrated their wisdom and creativity. They not only showed the buildings with correct arrays, but also made their cities colorful. One student in 3(5) even designed a 3D city, which the teachers were very impressed by.
This math project gives our students an opportunity to apply what they learned in class to life and also stimulates their creativity. W hope our third graders enjoyed themselves while doing this project and that they fell in love with math a little more!
