Middle School: English Story Telling Competition

On December 1st, the 7th and 8th graders had their annual storytelling competition. All the competitors all performed valiantly and surprised all of us with their amazing story telling abilities. The 7th graders had stories that were based on mythology and the 8th graders were doing stories from the horror genre. The students in the audience all listened very intensively to the contestants, eagerly listening to fill out the worksheets that the teachers had passed out. With the ASB’s help, the students in the audience knew when to applaud the speakers and when to stay silent and let the story tellers continue with their stories.

Of course, it was a competition, so not everybody could win first place. Still, the people on the stage were the best of the best. It takes a lot of courage to stand up there and speak in front of an auditorium full of people, therefore, all the people on the stage should be respected, and the students in the auditorium did a very good job at respecting the competitors.

The final winners of the competition were Kevin from 7th grade S and S+ level, Brandon from 7th grade H and H+ level, Yuka from 8th grade S and S+ level, and Lily Zhao from 8th grade H and H+ level. The stories were all very good, like Brandon’s tale of Beowulf’s epic quest to slay “the greatest evil known to mankind”, or Lily Zhao’s story of the possessed doll. Still, other than the final winners, there was also Hunter, who was practically screaming and kneeling on the ground.

Overall, the storytelling competition was very successful. With the audience all paying full attention to the speakers and the storytellers amazing all of us with their excellent storytelling skills.
