Stuff Meeting of Grades 9-10:Purposeful Grouping in Class
Stuff Meeting of Grades 9-10:Purposeful Grouping in Class
On December 28th, Grade 9-10 organized a staff meeting to talk about purposeful grouping in class. At first glance, group work may seem quite a common thing in class– easy to be performed. But a close examination of present group work quality reveals that students’ lack of attention and participation in the group is problematic. Mr. Matthew Pardy and Michael Haig provided their strategy applied for English class to overcome several problems like limited engagement, limited methods of individual student assessment and decreased opportunities for students to refine core literacy skills. Ms. Yi Ding shared a successful example of students’ own exploration of the graph of sine function. Mr. Zuhui Xu clarified his idea of class work through decades of teaching experiences. Mr. Feng Ma, SHSID’s high school principal made a closure of this meeting by illustrating how he promotes students’ initiative in groups by encouraging changing group members if any of the members is not devoted enough. By such meaningful discussions, a more intensive effort of both teachers and students is likely to make our classes more efficient and active.
