Grades 9 & 10: Video Editing Workshop for PA

On November 22nd, Thomas, the Principal’s video editing assistant, gave a lecture about video editing in Room 202 of the Zhongxin Building to improve the quality of our school’s PA articles, by teaching the PA reporters how to make their own videos. His spoke clearly, gave detailed demonstrations, and was very humorous. He turned the exhausting process of video editing into an interesting topic and provided detailed explanations of common procedures in video editing.

Thomas began his lecture by introducing everyone to Adobe Premiere, a software commonly used by video professionals. In his lecture, he summed up people’s basic demands when editing videos, which included video transition, brightness modification, sound filtering and video trimming. He listed a few ways to solve each of those problems and pointed out the most convenient solution, providing every single attendance with a rapid but detailed explanation of those problems. While explaining how to edit the video, Thomas used one of his own videos as a demonstration, in which he pointed out the benefits of those edits and the defects and solutions to some of those changes.

Since the presentation went on smoothly at a moderately fast pace, Thomas extended his presentation and began to lecture on making simple animations in After Effects, which connected nicely with the previous topics, and could be used to make the title and endings of videos. Thomas concluded his lecture by talking about how to export videos into commonly used file formats. After the lecture, he remained within the classroom in order to answer questions from students.
