History Club: Museum Trip

On November 20th, 2016, Mr Sven Serrano organized a trip to both the Shanghai History Museum and Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum which lasted from 13:00 to 15:45.

The exhibits of elaborate models, waxworks, detailed descriptions inscribed on plaques, and advanced multimedia devices vividly recurred the development and history of Shanghai throughout the years. Exhibits of people’s lives during various periods made visitors feel as if they were walking through history. Students learned about the culture of Shanghai and its unique combination of Chinese and Western elements. The Jewish museum mainly talks about the lives of Jewish refugees from Europe in old Shanghai during WWII, how the Chinese welcomed them with kindness, and the profound friendship maintained between two people over time.

This trip helped the club members gain invaluable knowledge which they couldn’t have learned in class. It was especially great for them to learn about the city they live in.
