High School Halloween Party

November 18th, SHSID opened a belated Halloween party called “Dismayland”. Although it was held much later than Halloween, it still offered the students a good chance to have fun and relax. This time, the Halloween party was open to all high school students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Even a few students in other school bought tickets to come. The theme of this Halloween party was the distortion of childhood dreams and memories into scary images. A quote sums it up: “What happened after happily ever after…”.

The event was started with a race game called “the Purge”. Basically, the Purge imitated the race game from “Running Man”, a Korean variety show. Each participant attached name tags on their backs with numbers. They were to keep their name tags safe for fifteen minutes of game-time in the Xian Mian building. Each floor had four catchers wearing white masks, with bells on their shoe laces, so they could be identified more easily. When the participants were knocked out, they were brought to the escorts. During the game, there was a twist where the participants could betray their friends and rip off each other’s name tags. At the end, there were three survivors who became the winners of the Purge.

The Carnival started soon after the Purge. It was designed for the students who were out in the Purge or could not go to the Purge. There were many activities including photo booths, bottle shooting, laser shows, face painting, food booths, etc. The Carnival was held by individual clubs and the ASB. One club sold colored fruit beverages in blood packs, which made it very unique. The Carnival lasted until the Halloween party ended.

The last event of the Halloween party was the Haunted House. The Haunted House consisted of a short walking course in the first floor of Yifu building. Before the event, the floor was decorated with desks, cotton spider webs, heads and limbs of dolls, etc. The background music and lighting added a lot to the eerie atmosphere. “Ghosts” and “monsters” scared the participants with sudden but readied “attacks”. Some students screamed all the way to the exit, while some others were not very scared and even went on predicting the next position or saying “hello” to the monsters.

Overall, the Halloween party was a success, except that more people could have come. Still, it was a good chance to get some relief after the midterms, and was very fun. Of course, the ASBs and helpers labored over each of the activities, which made the whole event possible. For those who didn’t come, we shall look forward to see more amazing events next year!
