Annual Halloween Party of the High School Division

On the afternoon of November 18th, SHSID's high school division hosted the Halloween Party, an annual tradition planned by the Associated Student Body, or ASB. This year, the ASBs really took the party to the next level.

“I’m quite proud of it”, said Celine Sung from 12(7), a member of the ASB, when asked about how the party turned out. Celine is part of the ASB design team, and she greatly emphasized how this year’s Dismayland theme is unique. “We based it on the Dismaland theme park, by the artist Banksy," she stated. "It’s basically a theme park with a lot of distorted Disney images.” The actor team of the event acquired unique costumes in tune this theme. “They aren’t just the 'typical black shirt with paint all over their face' ghosts,” Celine stated. This was also the first time in SHSID history in which the Halloween party was open to all high school students, including freshmen and sophomores.

One of the highlights of the Halloween Party this year included a building-wide game of tag known as “The Purge,” in which actors relentlessly hunted down unaware students in Xianmian Building for their name tags, stuck with light adhesive to each of the students’ backs. If an actor managed to tear off a student's name tag, the student was eliminated from the game. Many student-organized clubs of SHSID also set up food stands selling Halloween-themed delicacies, such as the Roots and Shoots Club’s “Blood Packs”. All of the clubs' proceeds will be donated to charity.

When interviewed, an anonymous Junior said that Dismayland was the “most epic party in [his] life so far." He was particularly impressed with the "decorations and little knickknacks that the ASBs threw in" and stated that he was “so amazed that this purely student organized event could be pulled off” to such great effect.

Students look forward to future festivities like this and hope that the ASB will make the next major event, Winter Ball, even more amazing.
