Grade 6:Company Visit-Shanghai Center

For career day, our class 6(2), along with 6(3), 6(6), and also 6(9), went to the second tallest building in the world (the tallest building is the Khalifa Tower in Dubai) which is also the tallest building in China: the Shanghai Center. The building is 632 meters tall and the base is 86 meters deep. The whole building is 127 floors tall. It was already really high when we were on the 37th floor. There, we visited the Shanghai Guanfu Museum on the 37th floor which was spliced into 4 different themes. There were porcelains, accessories made of gold, figures of Buddha, and finally beautiful ancient clothes made out of silk. All of them were amazing and really worth seeing. There was a little garden that was quiet and was suited for resting. The most amazing thing on the 37th floor was the Enamel Gallery. The whole floor was made out of filigree and there were lots of fish separated through the floor. When the Enamel Gallery is viewed from a far away angle, it seems like the fish are scattered around and are swimming towards the center. The process of making the filigree is very complicated. The people who did it used the classic procedure of “casting, modeling, embedding, burning, and polishing”. It took 134 workers 321,681 hours to finish the job. The Enamel Gallery, a total of 480 square meters, contains 1,789,653 filigrees and 1,379 enamels, enough to hold a Guinness World Record.

Next, we went to the VVVVVIP area which was called the Treasure Land. This area is the lowest point in Lujiazui. Inside where they store safes, it was like a maze. Actually, only the owners are allowed in there, but we were allowed to be a special case. There were safes that if you are the owner, you are the only person in the whole world that can open that safe. Either you're the only one who has that key or they use your fingerprint where they can identify how the blood flows through your veins. Cool right? A lot of parents put their childrens’ treasures inside the safes and show it to them 15 years later.

The Shanghai Center is not only impressive, but also memorable for us. We learned a lot and actually saw things that belonged to the ancient people thousands of years ago. We saw the combination of the most advanced technology and the very ancient objects. It was an amazing experience!
