Grades 9 & 10 Teachers’ Workshop: How to Use and Protect Your Voice
Grades 9 & 10 Teachers’ Workshop: How to Use and Protect Your Voice
On November 21st, the Grade 9 and 10 teachers in the Zhongxing Building attended a workshop, the focus of which was how teachers can use their voice properly and protect it. Mr. Jianjing Wu, a senior music teacher, shared his profound knowledge in vocalization with the other teachers. At the beginning, Mr. Wu clarified some common misconceptions about vocalism. Then, he illustrated with audio and video about the vibration of vocal cords and the aging process that changes one’s voice. Under his instruction, all the teachers practiced the way to take deep breaths and to let out the sound while tensing the muscle of the abdomen. This helps to spread the sound further in the classroom with less effort, while speaking louder simply overexerts the vocal cords and may cause damage that beyond redemption. At last, Mr. Wu also categorized the reasons that may lead to a sore throat such as allergies and tiredness, reminding all his colleagues to take care and use wisely the teachers’ “weapon”.
