Puxi Grades 1-4: Marvelous Storytelling From Dr. Mike Lockett

On November 18th, Dr. Mike Lockett visited our primary section and told multiple interesting stories to our kids, and teachers, which made a deep impression on every person. All of the primary students and teachers spent a lovely and unforgettable time with Mike.

Mike is a life-long educator and teller of tales. He is recognized for his work in education and has won awards for his recorded stories and for bilingual children's books. Furthermore, Mike is a unique, experimental recording artist with a desire to make highly creative music that expresses individual feelings in an artistic way.

He told stories to children with wonderful singing and lovely facial expressions. He played instruments while telling stories and using a variety of body languages. The stories are not just simple stories, because some of them have an educational purpose, such as remind children not to waste food and keep quiet when needed.

He brought many cute animal hats and invited teachers to put them on their heads and act as animals. He also had all the children raise their hands and pretend to do something. For example, he told our kids to raise their hands and reach up to the sky, and he said 'Say the name of your favorite candy: chocolate!' Or he would say a black cloud was coffee, or a white cloud was milk. He told kids to use their hands to draw a big circle and said the big circle was the red sun, a strawberry or a cherry. He also imagined that cutting the circle of the sun into halves just like cutting a watermelon or a pizza. We were also really glad to see that Dr. Mike spoke quite a lot of Chinese, so that his presentation had a bilingual aspect– perfect for a school like SHSID!

Dr. Mike Lockett’s story telling was so imaginative that all the kids and teachers were fascinated by it!
