Grade 8: Degas Art Show Volunteers Trying Their Best to Bestow the Best Service

This semester, our school has done many things to enhance our learning experiences. For example, many new off-campus activities have been introduced to the 8th Grade service learning program. One of them is the Degas Art Show Exhibition. The beautiful art on display and new opportunities offered has attracted a lot of attention. On November 12th, nineteen students arrived at the Xuhui art center at 9am, and began their volunteer work for the day.

Since the students had been given an orientation the day before, they were all ready for the tasks; no matter whether it was scouting the halls, collecting tickets, distributing navigators, answering questions, or assisting the VR experience area, all the students did outstanding work.

Working at the counter sounds easy, but as the facade of the exhibition, it is really important. Every time a visitor comes, the volunteers must welcome them with smiles, and treat them with utmost respect. They also have to ask them whether or not they need navigators. For the visitor’s questions, the volunteers have to try their best and answer flawlessly and not to be annoyed after many questions. For scouting the exhibit, it may have been a little uninteresting, but considering all the items there are priceless, the volunteers were still really focused and tried their best. You could see volunteers in every corner. In order to avoid disturbing others, the volunteers had to talk quietly, and as little as possible.

In the VR area, visitors could come and feel the elegance of a ballerina. In virtual reality they were able to create their own dance moves. This part of the exhibit proved highly popular, so the volunteers had to stay focused and keep themselves disciplined.

Although all the students were tired after 10 hours of work, they all felt accomplished. In this activity, they learned a lot. They did not only have the chance to closely observe a master in art’s masterpieces, they also learned many interesting facts about sketching and sculpturing. More importantly they learned how to communicate with others, and face different and sometimes impromptu problems. Both the event staff and visitors thought that our student volunteers did an excellent job. Our volunteers will continue to work harder and bestow the community with more perfect service!
