Grade 9: Lecture on TOEFL Test Skill

On November 15th, SHSID’s Grade 9 students had a lecture on TOEFL test skills in the auditorium of the Xianmian Annex Building. Given by an expert in teaching and training this language test, this lecture provided a general illustration of the type of questions, text categories and duration of each part in the test. In addition, it clarified to the students about specific test skills needed. TOEFL requires multiple and integrated language abilities. For instance, in the Writing section, the candidates need to utilize both listening and reading comprehension skills. Grade 9 students were also given the chance to have a mock speaking test on the lecture– to complete an impromptu speech in 30 seconds. Through simulated practice and instruction from the lecturer, students had a clearer picture about TOEFL and about how to prepare for the first “battle” on the way to the college application.
