Lecture on How to Communicate with Teenagers By Doctor Stephen Pijanowski
Lecture on How to Communicate with Teenagers By Doctor Stephen Pijanowski
On the evening of 17th of November, 2016, Dr. Stephen Pijanowski provided the parents with a lecture on ways of better communicating between themselves and their children. The lecture was translated by Amber and Christine from SHSID. Dr. Stephen began his lecture with an analysis of a teenager’s brain, the changes they go through and how they differ from an adult’s brain. He mentioned several studies conducted by psychologists that revealed previously unknown facts about the behaviors of teenagers. As the lecture went on, he gradually changed the topic from theoretical and biological perspectives to more realistic and present problems that teenagers and parents face during their communications. Parents were introduced with the 4 types of communication patterns that students tend to express and the ways to discern them. Dr. Stephen then shared 5 tips on how to bring themselves closer with their children and establish a better relationship.
A video interviewing the students and teachers on their opinions was shown during the lecture. Dr. Stephen emphasized how the video was very well produced and made in a very short time. He thanks the students of E.I.S, an international online platform who made it possible for voices from the teenagers and teachers to be heard. Finally, as the main focus of the lecture, Dr Stephen talked about the 3 magical questions that efficiently improve communications. The parents showed signs of understanding and some were nodding frequently, expressing agreement. After the lecture, many parents stayed to consult Dr. Stephen on some problems that they were having with their children.
