Grades 7-8: History Bowl and Bee

On October 29th SHSID’s middle school flung the full might of its 3 fantastic history-Bowl-and-Bee teams into a big competition against each other. They arrived at Cross Region Plaza early in the morning and were able to get front row seats for the competition’s opening ceremony. The team competition for the Bowl was in a round-robin format where each team got to play every other team twice. Each competition consisted of 4 rounds. First there was the "buzzer" round in which the first team to hit their buzzer would get the first chance to answer. Then there was a second round in which the team which answers the question correctly will get a bonus question all to themselves; then a speed round in which you have to answer 6 questions on a particular topic in 60 seconds; and a bonus round in which the faster a team answers correctly the more points they get. The intensity was compounded with intense staring and glaring from the opposing teams and individual opponents. “I think it might've been the first or second time that I broke out in a cold sweat in this entire year,” one of our students told us. It was a long day of buzzer slamming and SHSID civil war from which the winners finally emerged.

Congratulations to Felix Qin, Toby Chan, Oliver Ni, Kenneth, and Kiani in getting gold in the Bowl and Felix Qin, Toby Chan, and Oliver Ni in getting gold, silver, and bronze medals for the Bee respectively.
