Mishmash Art Group’s Visit from Denmark
Mishmash Art Group’s Visit from Denmark
At 2:30 pm on October 26th, an art group called “Mishmash” from Denmark performed a lively rendition of Romeo and Juliet in the drama classroom of Shanghai High School. The 40-minute show used no prop nor any music; the artists used only their bodies to interpret what they wanted to show.
The 4 artists were all from different countries, including Turkey, Sweden and Finland. They were all from the same international physical drama school named “The Commedia” and have received professional training. They are close friends and have cooperated many times before. This time, our school was very lucky to invite them to come to our school to perform during the Shanghai International Art Festival Week.
This performance was very different from the traditional Romeo and Juliet. The artists used comedy to tell the story, instead of tragedy. Their telling of Romeo and Juliet was unique and engrossing, and so the audience all had an amazing experience. After the performance, the students from both the local and international divisions asked many questions and talked about their feelings; they also said that they really loved this new type of art.
