Grade 8: An Interesting Lecture about Wealth Building

As the eighth graders are aging to grow into young adults, it is also crucial for them to develop a sense about wealth and its basic skills.

On the afternoon of October 20th, the 8th graders filed excitedly into the primary section auditorium to hear a lecture about wealth building from Mr. Yan Hong, a professor from Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance.

Professor Yan began his lecture by explaining the various categories of “assets”-personal assets, spiritual assets, intellectual assets, and financial assets. Through different examples from several well-known people, he analyzed the assets each people contained - the outstanding physical ability of Yao Ming, the spirit of sacrifice from Mother Teresa, the extraordinary intelligence of Einstein, and the immense fortune of Bill Gates. As the students could see photos of these famous people on the PowerPoint, they called out their names impassionedly. He also said that “wealth” wasn’t defined only in the terms of monetary possession, but ultimately the value of assets determined from diverse aspects.

Mr. Yan continued his lecture through explaining where wealth could come from. The audience was highly attentive and eager to learn about the factors for acquiring wealth. He said it was possible to be wealthy from inheritance, but furthermore the wealth can be accumulated from one’s effort, energy, and attention.

He concluded his speech by advising the students to manage wealth wisely. He also encouraged them by saying wealth of life awaits their discovery. Finally, a roar of applause declared the end of the lecture.

Even though the lecture has ended, the passion and hope remained deep inside the hearts of every individual, hopeful and ambitious to build and nurture their own assets to become a “wealthy” person.
