Grade 8:Reading Buddies Group

In our system of service learning programs, the reading buddies group has played its own role. The group’s job is to tell stories such as fables to kids from primary school, especially to first and second graders.

On the afternoon of Oct. 20th, this group held its first event– reading all sorts of interesting stories to second graders in the primary section. As soon as the members stepped into the classroom, almost every single kid in the room smiled. The class welcomed these story tellers and most of them were eager to hear stories.

The lovely kids leaned close to listen to our stories that we had read when we were their age. They laughed when we made silly voices to go along with the story, and asked amusing questions about it too. The second graders were so happy and carefree, that soon enough, we almost felt like we were second graders too. Soon, we were pointing out funny things in the pictures of the book, and laughed along with the second graders. After finishing the story, there was still time leftover. So, we started playing introductory games. But a few minutes later, our precious thirty minutes with the second graders was up. When we left, we gave each second grader a high-five. Some of the second graders were begging us to stay for a few more minutes, and telling us to come back next time.

All in all, this experience was one all these students will cherish and look forward for another one. Judging from my classmate’s comments about how cute the second graders were, I’m willing to bet they felt the same way. Reading Buddies has shown how much we have accomplished and how we should live while we are young.
