Grades 9-10: Mole Day

October 25th was “mole day” in Zhongxing building. Students and teachers celebrated this festival of chemistry together by guessing elements, organizing periodic tables, performing experiments and listening to the lecture like “Chemistry in Coffee Brewing” presented by Mr. Hao Sun. Students tried to look for the cards of elements all over the Zhongxing building and answer the questions on each card to earn grades in exchange for gifts. During lunch time, chemistry teachers brought different experiments. Mr. Chunqiu and Yangbi performed a marvelous experiment where they changed golden coins into to silver plated ones. Ms. Yueyue Zhang gave students a remarkable experience about the production of mini firecrackers. Also, Ms. Yuan Zhang taught students how to make handmade soap and Mr. Tao Zhao taught students how to make silver mirrors on a plate of glass. It was funny that the helium gas was able to change every experimenters’ voice, while the mixture of mentos and Coca Cola created a tremendous fountain. The mole day was full of joy and was a memorable experience for all involved.
