Grade12: Accounting Lecture by Guest Professor

On October 18th, an accounting lecture was held for Grade 12 students studying Accounting this year. Professor Yang Lei, a VisitingProfessor of Finance from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), was invited to give a lecture to our students. He has worked in a world famous investment bank for more than ten years. During the 40-minute lecture, he showed a very basic overview of the accounting world and gave a first taste of accounting to the students who have just started studying accounting last month.

At first, Professor Yang asked questions like “what is accounting” and “who are the users of accounting” to let students know the key functions of accounting in companies, especially when a company plans to go for an IPO. He then talked about some more complex questions in accounting such as the capitalization of expenses, the revenue-expense matching principle and the measurement of contingent liabilities. When he mentioned how to evaluate a company and make correct investment decisions, he showed a very simple example of some key financial figures of two companies. He gradually guided students to analyze the operation and future development of the two companies based on those figures and thus to make appropriate decisions. Students had great interest in the lecture and actively asked questions to the professor at the end.
